Raw materials
Plastic particles, additives to accelerate decomposition.
01
Packaging
Biodegradable bag has many sizes, depending on the requirements of the customer.
02
Appearance
Biodegradable bags look similar to other traditional plastic packaging. However, for customers to distinguish, there will be the words “Biodegradable” on products.
03
Quality
Biodegradable bags are guaranteed quality, has a good bearing capacity, are printed sharp, color is clear without fading, cut lines are not redundant.
04
Price
The biodegradable bags cost slightly more than the cost of conventional plastic bags.
05
Reduction in carbon emissions
Polystar’s unique biodegradable material is made from PLA bioplastic. As this is plant-based, the manufacturing process produces far fewer carbon emissions than traditional plastic. While traditional plastic releases four tons of emissions, biodegradable plastics emit only 0.8 tons of carbon – a 500% reduction!
Waste reduction
Currently, the UK generates over 30 million tonnes of household waste every year, approximately 35% of which is garden and kitchen waste. As biodegradable plastics break down over time, this means there is a large reduction in the volume of waste being created which means less waste ending up in landfill. With less wastage taking up space in landfills, the outcome is less overall waste to manage. Saving land for other purposes and preserving the beauty of our planet.
Repurposing & Recycling
The oils that come from plants make bioplastics far superior materials compared to traditional plastic types. The oils make the surface of bioplastics more malleable and less brittle so that it’s easier to form new shapes and textures.
Reduced pollution
As biodegradable products break down naturally, they eventually decompose and are consumed by soil and other natural components. This natural process means no forced chemical reaction needs to take place to kickstart the process and less pollution will happen as a result.
Non-toxic
Biodegradable bags are made from natural materials which means that they are safer for users.
Traditional plastics are made with harmful by-products and chemicals which are a threat to the environment and life as well. They are likely to emit these harmful substances during the breakdown process. What’s more, the plastic used for most standard water bottles, PET, can attract harmful bacteria or even leak chemicals.
Less petroleum
Biodegradable plastics also minimises the use of petroleum supplies. Traditional plastic is manufactured by oil molecules being heated and treated to convert into polymers.
Brand friendly
Another benefit of biodegradable bags is the positive effect it can have for your brand. Major corporations such as Coca-Cola are using bioplastic products due to its sustainable reputation. Choosing greener options can have a positive impact on your brand alongside helping the environment.
Agriculture
In agricultural production, biodegradable plastic bags can be used for mulching to maintain soil temperature and moisture and increase crop yields. Compared to traditional polyethylene mulch, biodegradable mulch can be broken down naturally after use and does not cause soil contamination.
Retail
Biodegradable plastic bags are gradually replacing traditional plastic bags in retail outlets such as supermarkets and convenience stores. These bags are not only environmentally friendly, but also meet the needs of customers to carry their purchases. Some environmentally conscious companies have taken the initiative to promote biodegradable plastic bags to minimise the impact on the environment.
Catering industry
In the takeaway food industry, biodegradable plastic bags are used for food packaging, which can effectively reduce white pollution. With the rapid development of the takeaway industry, the application of biodegradable plastic bags has a bright future.
Medical field
Biodegradable plastics are also widely used in the medical field, such as medical sutures, fracture fixation devices, artificial skin, etc. These materials have good bio-compatibility. These materials have good biocompatibility and can be naturally degraded after use, which reduces environmental pollution.
Daily necessities
Biodegradable plastics are also widely used in the packaging of daily necessities such as grocery bags, supermarket shopping bags, fast food utensils, cosmetic/skin care packaging materials. These products can naturally degrade after use, reducing environmental impact.
1. Starch-based biodegradable plastic bags: This type of plastic bag is made of corn starch, potato, tapioca, etc. as raw materials, and a small amount of biodegradable plastic (such as PBS, etc.) is added. It can be decomposed by microorganisms and eventually converted into carbon dioxide and water without causing any environmental pollution. However, the cost of this plastic bag is higher and the degradation rate is slower.
2. Biodegradable polyester plastic bags: Biodegradable polyester is used as the main raw material and is produced by high-tech technology. This type of plastic bag relies on the action of microorganisms to decompose into CO2 and water, the cost is higher but the decomposition speed is faster.
3. PBAT biodegradable plastic bags: PBAT is the abbreviation of polybutylene terephthalate, this kind of plastic bag is made by mixing PBAT and starch or adding a certain proportion of biodegradable resins (e.g. PLA), it can be naturally degraded in water, and it is harmless to the soil and ecological environment. It is not harmful to the soil and the ecological environment.

4. PHA biodegradable plastic bags: Made of PHA biodegradable polymers, which are produced by anaerobic fermentation of bacteria, and the degradation products are CO2 and water, which will not cause soil pollution.
5. Photo oxygen degradable plastic bags: The raw materials are mixed with photosensitizers, which gradually decompose into tiny fragments under sunlight. The degradation time of this type of plastic bag is difficult to control and is greatly affected by sunshine, temperature, ultraviolet intensity and other factors.
6. Light / biological double degradation of environmental protection plastic bags: A combination of photo-oxygen degradable and biodegradable properties, with double degradation effect, the application of better, but there are still some technical limitations, such as waterproof, tensile, strength and other challenges.
